All the Right Tools

Equipped with the finest tools available in landscape design, our staff designers have the added advantage of decades of practical field work experience to 'draw' from.

Too often, landscape plans are created by architects in other states or by part-time landscapers who are not familiar with the plants they offer, let alone how to install or care for them.

That is not the case with  H & M Landscaping!

Click on the landscape design to see the actual installation behind the landscape design.  One of our crews spent a few days last summer in Vassar, Michigan turning this landscape design into reality.

This was a project that truly illustrated a full spectrum of our landscaping talents.

Brick pavers, retaining walls, a Pondless water feature, landscape lighting, and plants were all involved in this project.  Enjoy!

Design Tips from the Pro's

All too often we are called out to renovate an existing landscape and find many of these common landscaping blunders.

  • Poor drainage-Before you landscape analyze the slope of the land.  Water needs to flow away from the home. Consider running the downspouts underground in tile, emptying in the lawn.   Do not overlook the amount of water that comes off your roof!
  • Plants 101- Be familiar with what you are planting.  A 2 foot tree today may grow into a 20 foot tree tomorrow. Also, very seldom is there a plant that does well in all conditions.  Read the label, check for sun, water, soil and nutrient requirements.
  • Pruning -Not only is this overlooked but it is underestimated.  The advantages of  correct pruning techniques are many.  Proper pruning promotes healthy growth, better blooms, and aesthetically pleasing plants. Do your homework or ask a pro!
